ICOE is undertaking an independent Research and Publication Programme for the Oil and Gas Industry and is seeking, in association with the universities referenced below, to recruit an interdisciplinary team of exemplary graduates in different disciplines who intend to develop their careers within industry, government or research. We offer an opportunity to support this aspiration through participation in a programme of work designed to affect major step changes following Macondo and other major incidents and technical challenges associated with drilling and production in increasingly extreme conditions. This will be achieved through critical examination, understanding, and effective application of EHS principles and practice. Both academic credentials and relevant research topics of prospective candidates will be considered with final selection based on demonstrated specialist capability, interdisciplinary motivation and the necessary support of a participating academic faculty.
Funding is presently being raised through the Industry to finance a team of five plus specialists whose work shall be coordinated by the ICOE Project Director, the PhD academic supervisor, and members of the Research and Editorial Board; the latter comprising distinguished academics and practitioners.
The successful candidates will be enrolled with one of the following Universities:
Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot Watt, Stavanger or Strathclyde
Candidates will spend up to twelve months in the Project Research Centre based in Granton, Edinburgh. At the same time, short term secondments may be arranged with appropriate industry sponsors. The remaining period will be spent in the university with whom a candidate is registered for specific doctoral research in fulfilment of the requirements for the PhD degree. Please note that all the candidates will have to pass the three months prequalification period, in a form of an unpaid internship, in the ICOE offices in Edinburgh.
